LASIK
Cost
LASIK,
or laser in situ keratomileusis, is
an eye
surgery that treats farsightedness
(hyperopia), nearsightedness (myopia),
and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea
through the use of a laser. Only eye
doctors specializing in refractive
surgery are qualified to perform LASIK.
Cost
should never be the deciding factor
when choosing a surgeon to perform
LASIK. The choice should be made based
on the qualifications of the surgeon.
However, most reputable refractive
surgeons agree that consumers
should avoid “discounters.”
Many of these laser surgery centers
sacrifice safety in order to cut costs.
The cost of LASIK varies greatly between
cities, but generally ranges from
$499 to $2500 per eye.
